Jim Oberweis is already presenting the Trump administration with his legislative objectives more than a year before the midterm elections.
Illinois State Senator Oberweis, a former dairy industry owner, met with White House Political Director Matt Brasseaux and Deputy Director Jon George Thursday to discuss his proposal to draft legislation that would ban government budget deficits under the Constitution.
In the event that he is elected next year, Oberweis, who is seeking to succeed Rep. Byron Donalds in the 19th Congressional District, requested that the administration back a Tax Limitation Balanced Budget Amendment.
A proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution known as the “tax limitation balanced budget amendment” would mandate that the federal government balance its budget annually, with expenditure being limited to no more than total revenues received.
Oberweis told Fox 4 outside the White House that the Taxpayer Protection and Limitation Act is a long-term endeavor.
Actually, it came very close to passing once before. It was only defeated by a single vote.
Oberweis is one of numerous contenders who are speculated to be interested in the race or who have officially proclaimed their intentions.
