SILVERSTONEMax Verstappen is in pole position for the British Grand Prix, but Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, the current Formula 1 champion, will be right behind him in the race on Sunday.
Verstappen of Red Bull, who had had a rough practice, gained extra speed in Saturday’s qualifying session to take pole position ahead of Piastri and Norris of McLaren, both of whom committed minor but expensive errors.
With Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari all displaying excellent performance in qualifying and the top six cars separated by just 0.229 of a second, it may be a fierce battle for the victory. Rain could possibly fall during the marathon, which could throw everyone’s plans into a loop.
The top competitors use varied configurations, which indicate distinct advantages and disadvantages at different stages of the racetrack. For maximum speed on the straightaways, Verstappen’s car specifically forgoes grip in the turns.
Verstappen sits in third place, 61 points behind Piastri, who is ahead of Norris, the winner of the Austrian Grand Prix last week, by 15 points.
