Aaron Judge gets struck in the face by a toss from Yankees teammate Anthony Volpe

NEW YORK As the Yankees were leaving the field following the fifth inning of their 12–6 loss to the New York Mets on Saturday, teammate Anthony Volpe threw a ball that struck Aaron Judge in the face.

After the game, Judge had a little bandage still attached to his right eye when he batted in the sixth. Despite having a mark near his eye, he claimed to be unharmed.

As many major league teams do at the end of an inning, New York players started tossing the ball about as they headed toward the dugout after Mark Vientos lined out to Yankees second baseman Oswald Peraza to end the fifth at Citi Field.

As the slugger sprinted in from right field, the ball went to Volpe, and the shortstop threw it high and arcing toward Judge. But as he got closer to the infield, Judge seemed to be looking away, and the ball struck him in the side of the face, removing his sunglasses.

Yes, confusion, I mean. At first, I had no idea what had happened. Aaron Boone, manager of the Yankees, remarked, “I just saw kind of a, what felt like something happened.” Well, I was worried, of course. had a small cut. Naturally, I don’t think anything is that serious in the end. However, at first, there was clearly a lot of fear.

The careless Yankees suffered their sixth straight loss, matching a season-highest total.

“This week has been awful,” Boone remarked.

Additionally, New York lost six games in a row from June 13–18, which is the first time the team has experienced two six-game losing streaks in a single year since 2000.

Simply put, you need to play better. That’s the crux of the matter. Only the basics. “Making the routine play routine,” the Yankees’ skipper, Judge, stated. It’s only the minor details. It kind of boils down to that, but every successful team experiences a few setbacks.

We will tidy up a few things. We are aware of what must be done. We’ll handle the business.
