Inter Miami makes history during their FIFA Club World Cup campaign

Nobody anticipated that Inter Miami would create a stir at the FIFA Club World Cup, but the team proved everyone wrong.

Inter Miami was the only team to win a match among the three Major League Soccer teams competing in the tournament.

It was a historic victory over FC Porto, a Portuguese powerhouse.

The first Major League Soccer team to defeat a European team in a recognized competition was Inter Miami. Being the first team in CONCACAF history to defeat a European team in a FIFA international tournament, it also established CONCACAF history.

With zero victories, one draw, and five losses overall, the two other Major League Soccer teams competing in the tournament—the LAFC and the Seattle Sounders—did not win any of their games.

Inter Miami advanced to the round of 16 after winning one game and drawing two.

Last Sunday, the team had to play Paris Saint-Germain, the European champions. Botafogo would have been the opponent if the team had defeated Palmeiras, a Brazilian team, in their most recent encounter.

Lionel Messi also made history in the encounter against PSG. He was playing one of his old clubs for the first time.

When Inter Miami played PSG, its incredible run came to an abrupt stop.

While Inter Miami was unable to even enter their attacking half, PSG scored four goals in the first half.

The French champions eliminated Inter Miami from the Club World Cup with a 4-0 victory.

Miami had a successful tournament. Even though the club is only six years old, its historic pedigree keeps growing.

The next game for Miami in the MLS regular season is scheduled for Saturday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Montreal.
