Idaho’s BoiseIn 2022, four University of Idaho students lost their life when a masked attacker broke into their rental home and fatally stabbed them while they slept. This tragedy stunned the country and put a stop to their aspirations.
As a marketing major, Madison Mogen oversaw a social media campaign for the Greek eatery where she was employed. Senior Kaylee Goncalves was organizing a trip to Europe after graduation. Marketing major Xana Kernodle was the type of person who made a big impression. Additionally, Ethan Chapin was a freshman whose triplet classmates were also university students.
According to Shannon Gray, a lawyer for Goncalves’ family, Bryan Kohberger, 30, the man accused of the killings, will now seek a judge on Wednesday to accept a plea agreement that would spare him the death penalty.
Approximately 80 miles (130 kilometers) southeast of Spokane, Washington, on Nov. 13, 2022, the bodies of the students were discovered stabbed to death at a rented house across the street from the university campus in Moscow.
On the night of the attack, Chapin, Kernodle’s boyfriend, was there for a visit. They were all pals and part of the Greek system at the university. Many of their classmates and locals were devastated and terrified by the deaths.
The four were probably asleep when they were attacked, according to autopsies. Each was stabbed several times, and some suffered defensive wounds.
The student profiles are as follows:

Madison’s father, Ben Mogen, told a gathering during a Moscow vigil in 2022 that since she was their only child, everything she accomplished was extremely significant. Mogen claimed that he took satisfaction in talking about Maddie, and the two enjoyed going to concerts together.
“I have this daughter, here’s a picture of her, she’s on the dean’s list at college, she works hard, and she has all these friends at her sorority,” Mogen remarked, in response to people asking me to describe myself whenever I’ve met them since she was born.
Goncalves, Kaylee
21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves was a general studies senior. The next year, she was planning a vacation to Europe and had joined the sorority Alpha Phi.
At the 2022 vigil, Kaylee’s father, Steve Goncalves, stated that Kaylee and Madison became inseparable after meeting in the sixth grade.
They arrived here together after attending high school together and beginning to look at colleges. Eventually, he said, they moved into the same apartment. Ultimately, they passed away on the same bed and in the same room.
“The beauty of the two always being together comforts us, even though it’s a shame and hurts,” he remarked.
In an Instagram post honoring Mogen’s 21st birthday in May 2022, Kaylee Goncalves detailed some of her past with Mogen.
“In all of my childhood stories, I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to be the main character,” she wrote.
“I love you more than life,” Mogen retorted. With a love emoji, my closest friend for eternity and more.
