Colton Cowser of Orioles breaks up no-hit bid by Rangers’ deGrom in 8th inning

BALTIMOREColton Cowser of Baltimore broke Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom’s no-hit bid Wednesday night by singleing to start the eighth inning.

Before allowing Cowser’s hard hit grounder to right field at the beginning of the eighth inning and walking designated hitter Sam Haggerty and left fielder Alejandro Osuna in the seventh, the 37-year-old deGrom had a perfect game through six innings.

DeGrom had seven strikeouts. Before being lifted after giving up his first hit, the two-time Cy Young Award winner threw 89 pitches and 59 strikes. He is 7–2 overall.

Texas has a 7-0 advantage.

On Tuesday night, the Orioles singled in the seventh inning after going hitless for six innings against Texas left-hander Jacob Latz. Before Gary Sanchez eventually singled off reliever JT Brubaker in the eighth inning on Saturday, Baltimore was hitless for seven innings against Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt.

Texas scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the second, and one more in the sixth. The Rangers got three earned runs from reliever Scott Blewett and four earned runs from Baltimore starter Brandon Young.
