ANAHEIM, Calif. — In Sunday’s 7-4, 11-inning victory against the Los Angeles Angels, Washington slugger James Wood became the only big leaguer since Barry Bonds to be intentionally walked four times in a game.
In 2004, Bonds was purposefully walked four times during four separate games. Wood, Roger Maris, Garry Templeton, Manny Ramirez, and Andre Dawson are the only other players since at least 1955 to be intentionally walked four times in a game. On May 22, 1990, Dawson got five intentional passes for the Chicago Cubs against Cincinnati.
Men were on second and third in the fifth, on second in the seventh, on third in the ninth, and on third in the eleventh when Wood took his deliberate walks.
