MONTEVIDEOThe Communist Party’s candidate, Jeannette Jara, wins the internal official’s vote in the November presidential election, which was marked by low turnout and cold temperatures throughout all of Chile.
With 60.63% of the vote after having examined 77.51% of the votes, Jara went to Carolina Toh, the former minister of the Interior and Public Safety, who received 27.61% of the votes. Ms. Jaime Mulet (2,83%) and Gonzalo Winter (8,93%) quedaron.
We would want to congratulate the people of Chile on their democracy. Second, we would like to congratulate Jeannette Jara, the elected candidate of these comics, who represents all of progressivism in the November election. Winter assures us that Jara has the full support of the Frente Amplio party.
Around 15.4 million people were asked to cast voluntary ballots in order to choose the official’s successor to President Gabriel Boric, who took office on March 11, 2026.
The official numbers are known, however it appears that participation was lower than it was in 2021, when 15% of the population participated.
Jara served as the Trabajo minister in the Boric government. Following the implementation of the 40-hour law, which gradually reduced the weekly workday, Chilean society places a high value on labor.
Jara, the daughter of a housewife and a mec nico, was born and raised in the El Cortijo neighborhood. She is the first member of her family to graduate from college and the oldest of five brothers. Has a master’s degree in public administration and has served in the Communist Party since the age of 14.
Chileans will be going to the polls on November 16th in order to elect a president for the 2026–2030 term.
