Anisimova, 23, was born in New Jersey and moved to Miami-Dade County when she was just 3. She has lived in Aventura and owns
a penthouse
in Miami Beach.
Many in South Florida feel proud of her
victory against Aryna Sabalenka
and are excited about her
match against Iga Swiatek
on Saturday.
“I think what makes her special is her true grit,” said Lori Nieder, who runs the tennis center in Miami Beach.
Anisimova‘s father, Konstantin Anisimov, a Russian migrant, died in 2019, and she took a break from 2020 to 2022.
“It’s such a wonderful … really heartwarming story that we get to see her after all these years,” said Filip Bogic, a coach who played with her at the tennis center.
For Soleil Price, a regular at the center at Harding Avenue and 72 Street in North Beach, the tennis star brings hope.
“It’s very inspiring,” Price said.
The center is hosting an 11 a.m. watch party.
