Microsoft announces another mass layoff, thousands of workers affected

Redmond, Washington.Microsoft is laying off thousands of employees, the second large-scale layoff in as many months.

Notices of layoffs were sent out by the IT giant on Wednesday.

Although the corporation will not disclose the exact number of layoffs, it stated that they would represent fewer than 4% of its personnel from a year ago.

According to Microsoft, the layoffs will impact a number of teams worldwide, including its Xbox video game business and sales division.

According to a statement, we are still making the organizational adjustments required to put the business and its staff in the best possible position for success in a changing marketplace.

When Microsoft last disclosed its annual headcount in June of last year, it had 228,000 full-time employees. On Wednesday, the business said that its most recent layoffs would eliminate about 4% of its workforce, or roughly 9,000 employees. However, this year has already seen at least three layoffs.

The largest, at least so far, was in May when Microsoft started laying off over 6,000 employees, or nearly 3% of its global workforce. This was the company’s biggest layoffs in over two years, during which time it substantially invested in artificial intelligence.

In addition to the almost 2,000 employees who lost their jobs in the Puget Sound region in May, Microsoft reportedly let off 300 more employees based out of its Redmond, Washington headquarters in June, according to notices it filed to state employment officials in Washington.
