MiamiThe administration of President Donald Trump sent 200 U.S. Marines to Florida to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

The U.S. Marines in Florida are from Air Station New River in North Carolina, and the U.S. Northern Command confirmed Thursday that they will perform non-law enforcement tasks within ICE facilities.

The Department of Defense says that in June, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved Homeland Security’s May request for assistance in Florida, Texas, and Louisiana.

The Trump administration declared that the deployments are carried out in accordance with a set of Title 10 laws that enable the U.S. military to defend federal workers and property.
