Florida’s South Beach.According to records, Hussam Abdul Ghaffar and Duan Harris were both in Miami-Dade County jail on Wednesday night following a box cutter stabbing, a theft, and a strike with a steel thermos in South Beach.
According to police records, Ghaffar, 41, was working at the 7-Eleven on Tuesday night at 350 Lincoln Road when crime scene investigators discovered a yellow utility box cutter close to a sink.
According to police reports, surveillance footage showed Harris, 40, entering the 7-Eleven at 11:06 p.m., departing a few seconds later, and Ghaffar leaving the establishment shortly after.
According to police investigations, surveillance footage also shows a fight that culminated with Harris falling at the door of a McDonald’s restaurant at 1650 Washington Ave. about 11:07 p.m.
Records indicate that police officers attempted to assist Harris using gauze until fire rescue workers arrived after seeing him bleeding on the ground along Washington Avenue, close to Lincoln Road.
According to police reports, Harris, who is homeless, admitted to stealing sandwiches and juice from the 7-Eleven, valued at $17.45. Ghaffar claimed he was in pain after Harris struck him in the head with a steel thermos.
Before firefighters transported Harris to Jackson Memorial Hospital, a police officer also claimed to have discovered a little bag containing crack cocaine in his pocket.
Harris said that Ghaffar had stabbed him. According to police arrest reports, Harris was taken into custody by Miami Beach police officers at approximately 11:24 p.m. on Tuesday, while Ghaffar was taken into custody at 11:27 p.m.
Correctional deputies arrested Ghaffar at 5:35 a.m. and Harris at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to Miami-Dade County inmate records.
Harris was charged with petit theft, cocaine possession, and violence. He posted a $3,650 bond. A case of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon was brought against Ghaffar. He posted a $2,500 bond.
