Powell joining Heat, Collins to Clippers, Love and Anderson to Utah in 3-team trade, AP source says

MiamiAs part of a three-team trade, a person with knowledge of the deal said Monday that the Miami Heat would acquire Norman Powell, the Los Angeles Clippers would acquire John Collins, and the Utah Jazz would acquire Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson.

According to the source, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade has not received the necessary NBA permission, the transaction also includes at least one second-round draft selection moving from the Clippers to Utah.

Powell, a career 40% 3-point shooter, averaged 21.8 points per game for the Clippers last season. Last season, Anderson averaged 6.7 points in 25 games after being dealt to Miami, Love averaged 5.3 points in 23 games with the Heat, and Collins averaged 19 points in 40 games with the Jazz.

The deal was initially reported by ESPN.

Powell is expected to provide Miami with much-needed shooting and scoring. Duncan Robinson, the team’s all-time 3-point leader, left the Heat this summer, and they finished 24th out of 30 teams in terms of points per game the previous season. Robinson will be joining the Pistons of Detroit.

Love is an NBA champion, a five-time All-Star, a player who will probably be inducted into the Hall of Fame after his playing career is over, and he has indicated interest in staying with the Heat once his current deal expires following the 2025–2026 campaign.

After learning of the exchange, Love wrote on social media, “I never thought I’d be a math problem.” Greetings from the NBA.

In eight seasons, Collins has averaged 16 points per game; he spent the first two with Utah and the first six with Atlanta. After playing for San Antonio, Memphis, Minnesota, and Golden State before being traded to the Heat in the transaction that sent Jimmy Butler to the Warriors, Anderson will be joining his sixth franchise.
