I just want to make it very clear right now that I never phoned 911 to report a domestic incident. According to Sariya Stroud, I phoned non-emergency since I couldn’t get through to my spouse on the phone while he was taking a walk outside to relax. Two hours later, I became concerned. I contacted non-emergency once more to inform them that he had arrived home safely and that everything was OK.
Around 4 a.m., Stroud claims that her husband, Larry Stroud, heard a loud knocking and went to the front door of their house, which is located around Northeast 26th Street and North Andrews Avenue, with his rifle.
According to Sariya Stroud, my husband was on the couch at 4 AM when he heard heavy knocks on the door without anyone announcing their presence. He didn’t know I had called the cops. While I was shouting, he went outside to see what the threat was—the police! He was hit by cops several times when he opened the door while carrying our home defense weapon.
Police told Local 10 News that the officer-involved shooting occurred because when officers got at the house, they found an armed guy at the front door.
According to Sariya Stroud, “My husband is an amazing man who was attempting to protect his home from an unknown threat.” He didn’t ever shoot at the cops.
Officers reportedly started helping Stroud’s husband right away before a Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue unit could arrive.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials, the man was taken as a trauma patient by first responders to Broward Health Medical Center.
He was listed in critical condition on Wednesday, according to the police. Sariya Stroud said her husband is scheduled to have another surgery on Thursday.
According to Wilton Manors police, the shooting did not injure any officers. They claimed the Broward Sheriff’s Office is helping them with their criminal investigation into the alleged domestic disturbance.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into the police shooting, according to WMPD.
